well. yep. thats it. i have none. The organic house project, my glitchhop/dubstep band played a show 2 weeks ago (nov 7) and is again on dec 5.
loop bias is booked for new years eve in regina, and day in saskatoon.
the weather is beautiful.. i think its about +7 right now.
last year this time it was effing cold. gloabal. right.
weathers changing, but not enough to make the masses freak out about it. yet. at least according to what i've read.

you boob

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbCb1EWM8hg

there's the you boob. check out the other vids. me dj'ing, an playing flute.

infrequent blogging

sitting at home waiting to go work. I'm a bike messenger by day. at least for now. its fun. except when the cops throw you in jail for riding your bike on the sidewalk over a year ago. I swear i paid that ticket officer. waht? your handcuffing me. hard?!, your being extremely rude to me. what? your pushing me into your squad car. your staring at me while putting on a latex glove? what? i can't have a book to read while i sit in this holding cell, until my mom comes and bails me out? for riding my bike on the sidewalk>? are you serious.?? in canada>?
wtf?
on the good side i've got two shows this next week. nov 5 th in regina. gonna rock it hard with some tech/break beats. mostly dj'ing stuff. some old some new, first 30 min of the set i'm planning an experimental house didge jam. should be cool. i'll bring the video camera, and make alex work for the ride up.
the 7th is a blacklight party me and Alecia are helping organize. the Organic house collective will hopefully play, (if we can find a drummer) free flow dance is an old church. really cool space. jackie, the woman who owns/runs the space is a super cool burning man freak type, we' really dig what she's doing, and are hoping to involve her in this collaborative circus show what we've been talking about,. let you know how things develope. nyah.. much on the horizon,. the chrysalis...it's coming. i can feel it. break free little communal collective butterfly, go, and spread your ideas. pee on the heads of nay sayers.

this is my first youboob post. its a random improvised house(ish) jam. .didgeridoo, cs01, and computer stuffss. bad intro, i'll have to keep working on my camera relationship,. do you like the fake southern accent? it only comes out when i'm nervous, and on camera. (with no physical audience)
which is funny considering how many film and teevee interviews i've done now. (must be at least a little under a dozen).

any ways. (oh you anonymus, random audience) thats it for now. every so often i'll post here again, try to keep my random brain focused, and make posts at least once a week. as things start rolling, and the new years approaches, i'll step up the frequency, making dailly posts by new years. i swear. (ish) ok, well, maybe every other day.

oh, and november is here(ish) its time to liscence tracks under creative commmons, and register the web site. ahhhh....deadlines.

keepin it real. in the digital/

shows show sho

first of a string of shows is done. mostly dj'd some harder beats. went really well. place was dead when we showed up. hardhouse/vocal trance dj playing. as soon as i went on around 30-40 people showed up and went off. i didn't really recognize any of them, but two dudes told me they've been to all my shows in the last year. played out a new d n b track at the end. didn't work out so good. over limited i think. will have to go back, and mix it down again. (secretly i didn't know how it was going to react, , and wanted to hear it on a PA.
this coming saturday i'm jamming out some live looping; didgeridoo and flute effected pads nm beats. official burners decompression party.... dressing up like a cave man, and playing bongos all night. ugg yeah

blog

this is a blog blog. i'm blogging. news with the stuff. four shows coming up. 3 .local. 1 at a decompression party called devolution. cave men and monkeys and shit, we're thinking of going as amoebas. but we'll probably end up going as cave people, as its about 10 days away, and we can only buudget two evenings to costuming;. going to be playing keys, loop triggering, and playing effects didge, and flute, dubby downtempo stuff, should be lots of fun, and a nice change of pace from the 2 in the morning pounding dance floor stuff, i'm still playing around that time, but the pace is different, will video tape, hopefully have some dance stuff going with the show. theres two vj/dj sets up before me, plus a band or two and a dance performance. really looking forward to this one. everyone in the know in saskatoon should check it out. next shows in regina. basically dj'ing some of my funkier psy/tec stuff. then a lounge on nov 14. playing live house beats, plus effects flute and didg. 'nother good one, loop triggering/dj'/keys +fluteboxing, which is the first time i'll be bringing this material out. again going to record/video.

that;'s the stuff i'm doing this month. end of november has other newer plans n' stuff, with the label launch sometime in 2010. thats about it

free music

http://soundcloud.com/loop-bias/sunlight-through-a-broken-window

this is a piece i put together a couple of weeks ago... later on i'll publish a studio list, but i layered a series of very atmospheric arpeggios, playing staccato variations on a simple melody, there are a lot of things i could say about this piece, its a little over limited, but comes through as a clean mix on my monitors, i've only heard a few reviews, and its in its early days,
i've been sharing it through face book, and such things, there are 30 active chanels in the mix, and the parts get fairly complex, its got a good mood to it, and i've so far been getting a good response from it.
hope you enjoy

jamming

pounding out through like a foot of slush. no brakes. an hour left in work, too broke to just take off for the rest of the day, and all the drivers seem to only have learners liscenses. Well,. its back to work i go. I missed being a bike courier.
was rockin on some delay jams the other day, set a simple half time (133.33 /2 = 1 - 60 something)
with a jam patch of layered arpegios, (one goes up, one goes down) and a pretty pad thing, a dark little saw to give it that tech feel. crunched the prossessor hard. (what i couldn't do with a 8 core and 64 gigs of ram!!) and rocked an improv jam that really surprised me. i think the composition is turning out well, i tracked it in my head only, but the movement is comprised of 6 parts, two contrasting key signatures ( i think you call that a sestet) but the crescendo transitions already have a really nice feeling, it should develope well into some nice soundtrackish breaky symphonic tec house. i'll post an early version once i get to recording.

much to do. blog to you l8r

early morning

well. it seems i am unable to keep track of the days. its snowing, i'm back on a bike, working as a courier, which i did for two years a year ago. playing a show next weekend, pretty hyped about it. working on some new tracks for it. web design and jam night tomorow. winter is here. time to get to work

news and stuff

well. its post three. it was supposed to be day three, but life gets busy, and your virtual life gets set aside. so here goes. win it or lose it. say something interesting, hook the audience. or be doomed to wallow in obscurity. or maybe just have you, (oh anonymous readers) get bored and move on. dreaded obscurity, how I revel in you.
thats right. I like obscurity. I like attention, and having an audience as well. but theres something to be said for the anonymous. I mean, look at you (oh anonymous reader) I have no idea who you are, where you are, or what you like. I also have no sense of proper grammer, but more on that later.

Things are starting to boil to a homogenous mix altogether. its less of a blending now, and more chemical.
both in the general collective, and right here at home.

we had our first label meeting. it went well. plotted out our web page . starting planning some interactive stuff for the site. my own personal loop bias site launches 01/01/10. at which point i'll be giving away a track a week for a year. ... we're scripting a music video. we've contracted a videographer. the dance troupe is looking sadly unmotivated though. the committment is there, but not the actual. too bad. i'll keep trying with this group. collaborative efforts always take more motivation. \

yes very exciting. and as a subject to write about...very boring.

so . what to do?

is it a biopic? some strange topic? fiction? wordplays? bitching?

or more rambling?

rambling it is.

another late night

up late. i finished three new songs over the last couple of days. . posting them all over some DJ's page on f-book. the reactions in the first day are interesting, and encouraging,. i've been blending ideas pretty fluidly lately..recently learned about side chain compression. its amazing that i never new for all these years, who would thought, it goes to show how much there still is to learn. (a good life's philosophy there)
I'm launching a web site. posting songs to some online stores, and of course there's this blog... soon i'll be posting some live performances from my bassment on you tube... all in preparation for a new idea i've found.. an article in electronic music magazine about jonathan coulton.. who launched an indie music carreer by releasing, and giving away a song a week. i think he called it his "song a week thing" . each track was then also available through online retailers. damn.
i've been writing at least a song a week for a long time now. producing music has become playing music. i know that i need to get this stuff out there. i'd love to be making a living as a musician. what musician wouldn't... but really i just want people to enjoy what i'm doing. not just the perfect polished fancy pieces, but some of the more interesting as well.
its a lot of work. i'm giving myself until 01/01/10 to launch.
there's a plan here. promote the blog. then youtube. then the song sharing. (i've got to get online distribution set up before launching, which is whats going to take up most of my energy.)
i'll be updating the developements here.
I'm planning on calling my track give away promotion "Making Tracks" watch for it soon...lots of good tunes, and in any variety of styles, both within and out of electronic music genres.

musical tip:
neat arpeggios can be developed by running one instrument up a scale, and another down. (like D-G-A-D (and so on) on one, and D-A-G-D on two) layering this technique will create some very interesting chording

there's a first time for everything

so. here i am, with the house to myself for a couple of hours, and i've been thinking about starting one of these for a while. so, here i am. writing to an anonymous general audience. so, let me introduce myself. my name is david degen. i live in central canada, and i am an artist. well, primarily i'm a musician, but thats neither here nor there, more on that later.
the main purpose of this blog is to discuss music. composition, production, inspirations, trials, tribulations, and anything thats personally related to music, and the enjoyment, and making thereof.
wordy i know.
its also a place for me to journal strange life experiences, things that are interesting, the occosional poem, facts, and foibles, ideas, and a dark journey or two.

first off i guess that this is a blog about loop bias. or its supposed to be. it probably won't end up being, although there are lots of exciting things on the horizon for me there. .. new album finished and in post. the graphic arts almost done. a web page launch is near... (once i get one built..)
a small lineup of gigs. and a production floor thats speeding away at a breakneak pace with tight production and a variety of styles....

i guess this would be the spot where most (or at least some) artist would put a bio, to inform their growing fan base about themselves, and how they got to be the people that they are and stuff. and you know, that would be a great idea...but seeing as how i've already thrown the rules of grammer out the window, and will continue to do so until someone finds the inner strength to beat the sense of proper sentence construction into me. i guess that i probably won't at this point.
but i might. i don't know. it's good sometimes to ramble on at random. interesting things can happen.

for anyone thats interested, i say. good night.'
